Pole at the Playa: My Best Discovery in Barcelona

By Magnolia

It’s summertime and the beaches are popular places to hang out. A few summers ago I made an amazing discovery on a family trip to Spain: a pole on the beach. As a mostly indoor sport, it’s an entirely different feeling to perform tricks with some sun on your skin and a breeze in the air.

This discovery led to some realizations:

  1. The sandy ground is perfect for cushioning a fall. The pole is actually grippier since it has a coating on it.
  2. Meeting fellow pole enthusiasts in another country expands our pole communities and cultures. I met a few polers from other countries and we exchanged ideas and socials.
  3. It’s beautiful on the beach later in the day as the sun is setting. To enjoy poling at the same time is a magical experience.

On a second visit to Barcelona the following year, I looked forward to returning to La Barceloneta Beach for some pole time. It’s directly next to other exercise equipment where a crowd of fitness enthusiasts gather.

After some research, I have yet to find other beaches with poles. If you happen to know of any, please comment below.
