“Pole Stars” of Polecon

By Magnolia

One thing I learned this year at Polecon 2025 (and there were plenty of things, for sure), is that you can sign up for a private 1:1 workshop with a pole star. Although I found out a little late, I felt I had to sign up, especially since I’m preparing for a studio showcase in the fall.

I’ve never taken an acting class, but if I did, Jordan’s workshop would likely qualify. She had us adopting the archetypes as a way to imagine our performance on the pole. By becoming someone else, a character as such, we could project much more than ourselves.

I digress from the 1:1 pole star experience. On Sunday morning, the last day of Polecon, I was up bright and early before the day’s final workshops began.

Jordan and I met in one of the pole workshop rooms since the lights in the private room were not on and no one seemed to figure out how to turn them on. Regardless, this space was perfect and Jordan brought her energy and enthusiasm just like I knew she would.

I told her my ideas for tricks I wanted to do in my routine and she watched me practice them. She gave me suggestions and demonstrated different flow sequences that I would not have come up with on my own. Needless to say, when our hour was up, I left feeling confident and prepared to continue finalizing my routine on my own.

If you have a pole idol who is available for 1:1 appointments at Polecon, I highly recommend booking it, and doing it as soon as the schedule is released.

Also, go in with ideas for what you want to work on. It helps to give the instructor a clearer understanding of your goals and how you can accomplish as much as possible in a short time.

Stay tuned for my finished product (my routine) which, if all goes well, will be revealed in October’s showcase.
